New Year, New Reading Goals

Happy January 1st! This day every year feels like a blank slate: to reset goals, to change things that weren’t quite working, to continuously improve myself. I started this blog back in July. At this point, the months have wound together so much that I can hardly remember the beginning, but I do know one thing: I’ve been terrible at staying up to date. I’ve been bad at being productive and creative.

So, this is me taking the fullest advantage of this blank slate. Keep an eye on this space, because big changes are coming. More reviews, more monthly TBRs, more Books I’m Running to the Bookstore For posts, more Debut Tuesday features, more book love, more everything. January will be my month to fix this site, to be more productive, to be more consistent. Hello, 2019 goals.

On that note, let’s dive in:

2019 Reading Goals:

  1. Read at least 35 books
  2. Explore different genres
  3. Listen to more audiobooks
  4. Finish more series
  5. Finish the books I started in 2018 and abandoned
  6. Read more debuts

Keeping this short and to the point so I still have some freedom in my reading choices throughout the year. If one thing’s for sure, it’s that I am most definitely a mood reader. I doubt that will ever change. So, I need to keep my goals attainable in some ways, but also challenging enough that really push me to develop better reading habits.

I also like the idea of a low reading count at the beginning of the year so that I can gradually increase it as I read more. This way, when life gets busy and I simply don’t have time to read, I won’t beat myself up for not reading. (Does anyone else do this?) I’ve found that I truly work best when I have smaller milestones to reach instead of one, looming goal.

A lot of these are the same goals I had for 2018. But there are so many 2019 debuts to look forward to. And a lot of 2019 releases in general. (The Wicked King, King of Scars, Children of Virtue and Vengeance, anyone?) There are just so many books I want to read period that I’m feeling a little overwhelmed simply writing this.

But 2019 has arrived, and I desperately want to finish An Enchantment of Ravens tonight. Before I go, tell me, what are your reading goals going into 2019? Did you create a 2019 TBR? Or are you a mood reader, too?

  1. Good luck with all your goals, particularly finishing up stuff you’ve put down before! I’m aiming for 365 books read and hopefully fewer than that in, to get the TBR slightly shorter!

    1. Thank you! I have so many books I put down last year. 365 books? That’s incredible! I wish you luck with all of your reading!

      1. Thanks so much! It’s gonna be a real challenge, but I’m at 10 so far so building up that buffer, haha…
